Excellent. I put a comment on your blog about RAW. Hopefully it will not upset others, but you never know. But I think you're approaching this subject correctly. Just hang in there, you'll successed. I know you will. Just don't be too quick to take shortcuts. Once you've built up an understanding of what correct exposure is you will be in a better position to determine what it could be. If you place image editing before you know what correct exposure is, then you'll be at a disadvantage when the program asks you ' what should it be?" I have faith in your abilities to succeed. I believe you will overcome what you don't know and that when you do, people will say, oh, yeah, well Lavender took this one, so you know its correct in every way possible. :-)
